The R&B Outreach and Education Program

Renaissance & Baroque, Bringing Early Music to Pittsburgh, not only presents a concert series, but also produces an outreach and education program in the community.

The musicians performing on the concert series extend their time in Pittsburgh to teach, demonstrate, lecture, and perform in schools, universities, medical facilities, and concert halls.

The outreach and education programs include multi-day residencies, lecture-demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, and free performances. These activities are primarily for elementary, middle and high school students, but musicians also work with community members and college and university students.

R&B maintains a special relationship with The Children's Institute. At the Institute, the musicians perform a free concert for the children and staff. These performances, in many cases, are the only concerts by professional musicians these wonderful children are able to attend.

R&B has sent musicians throughout the greater Pittsburgh region reaching thousands of community members each year with our programs. In Butler County, R&B has sent performers to Moniteau School District and Slippery Rock University. R&B sponsored a community concert in Donora. R&B has also been busy in Allegheny County with residencies in the Clairton School District, Hampton School District, Mt. Lebanon School District, Pine Richland School District, and the Shaler Area School District. In Pittsburgh, performers have gone to Homewood, the Southside, and Northside.

How to bring the R&B Outreach & Education Program to
your school or organization

R&B outreach and education program activities can be tailored to fit in to your current curriculum and in most cases, the programs R&B brings to you are FREE.

These professional musicians are able to create a program to meet your particular educational needs; such as a program highlighting the music from a particular country to enhance the current course of study. Often the musicians choose to work directly with the teachers and administrators to make sure a meaningful project is produced.

R&B EXPECTATIONS OF OUTREACH AND EDUCATION RECIPIENTS

  • Assistance reserving the necessary space in the school for the outreach events

  • School preparation (such as letting school administration know about the upcoming events)

  • Materials when needed (some groups prepare materials for the students, so duplication and distribution of this material is appreciated)

  • Curriculum integration when applicable

  • Follow up letter to R&B after the outreach event (R&B supplies a brief form to be completed and returned.)
