UMMS Open Access Policy
University of Massachusetts Medical School Open Access Policy
This page has been set up for faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in preparation for a final vote on an open access policy by Faculty and Executive Councils.
The Faculty of UMass Worcester is dedicated to the promotion of public health and well-being through patient care, teaching, research and scholarly pursuits.
In support of this mission and furtherance of these goals, each faculty member grants permission to the University to make a copy of their scholarly journal articles available in the online open access repository of UMass Worcester. This policy applies to scholarly articles authored by members of the Faculty, classified as “Exempted Scholarly Work” according to the Intellectual Property Policy for UMass Worcester (T96-040, amended 2/4/04) and submitted to peer review journals. This policy can be automatically waived for a particular article at the discretion of the Faculty author.
According to this policy, each member of the Faculty grants to UMass Worcester permission to make available online, and to exercise copyright in, his or her exempted scholarly work. To achieve this, each Faculty member grants to UMass Worcester a nonexclusive, irrevocable, worldwide license to exercise any and all rights under copyright relating to each of his or her exempted scholarly works, in any medium, and to authorize others to do the same, provided that the work is not sold for a profit.
